Cambodia Border Crossing Documentation: Land, Sea, and Air Entry
Cambodia is a destination that appeals to every type of traveler. You can enter the country through the airport, land, and sea. However, it is important that you know the different entry requirements at different ports. Knowledge of the entry documents will help you dodge uncertainties and setbacks.
Cambodia has become a popular destination among ASEAN travelers, backpackers, and digital nomads. In 2022, more than 217 thousand tourists visited the country from Southeast Asia alone. But understanding the entry requirements is essential for avoiding delays and rejections.

General Requirements for All Travelers

E-Visa: Types T & E
The Visa T is a tourist visa. There are 9 visa-exempt nations when it comes to visiting Cambodia solely for tourist purposes. These countries include Malaysia, Singapore, Laos, Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia, Myanmar, and Brunei Darussalam.
The Visa E is an ordinary visa that covers many purposes, including business, work, and tourism. Both types of visas are single-entry, and will allow you a maximum stay of 1 month. They come with a validity of 3 months. Here are the entry points where electronic visas are accepted.

Cambodian e-visas will let you enter the country via land and air. For entry via seaport and other border crossings, you need an on-arrival or a paper sticker visa.
On-Arrival Visa
You can also get a visa on arrival in Cambodia. Not all the Cambodia land borders or entry ports will accept an electronic visa. In such a case, you need to get your visa at the entry point.
Paper Sticker Visa
You can also use a paper sticker visa to enter through ports, including Cambodia land borders, that don’t accept e-visas. You can get a regular visa from the consulate. You can physically visit a Cambodian embassy in your country with your documents.
Alternatively, you can also apply for the sticker visa via mail. Its validity can be extended for 30 more days. You need to get it done from the Cambodia Immigration Office.
Cambodia e-Arrival: Mandatory
Everyone travelling to Cambodia is required to submit an e-arrival form. You need to do it within 7 days of arriving in the country, even if you have a valid visa.
You will be asked to present the e-arrival document at the immigration checkpoint. Also, remember that the e-arrival requirement applies not just for e-visa, but also for traditional visas. Even if you plan to get your visa on arrival, you must be able to present your e-arrival card.
Documents Needed for a Visa Application
These are the paperwork required for applying for a visa.
Application Form: You must fill out an application form that you can find online on a reputable visa portal. You can fill out the form online to request an e-visa. You can fill out the form and print it to be submitted to the embassy for a physical visa.
Passport: Your passport must reflect a validity of minimum 6 months from the day you plan to arrive in the country. It should also have a blank page to accept the visa stamp. For an e-visa, you must submit a scanned copy of your passport’s bio page.
Photo: You must staple or attach a passport-sized photo to your application form. For an e-visa application, your photo should be in PNG or JPEG format.
Proof of Funds: It is possible that you will be requested to produce proof of money available to afford your travel. For this, you can submit copies of your bank statement.
Proof of Hotel Booking and Return Ticket: You may also be asked to demonstrate your intention to leave Cambodia after your tour. For that, you can present a copy of your hotel booking receipt and return ticket.
Vaccination Certificate: You will also be asked to produce your vaccination card or certificate to demonstrate that you are fully vaccinated.
Cambodia Entry by Air
If you are planning to enter Cambodia by air, you need to arrive at one of the three major airports. Your options include international airports like Phnom Penh, Siem Reap Angkor, and Preah Sihanouk. These airports accept an e-visa. So, you can make your entry hassle-free and avoid facing uncertainties or delays by getting your e-visa before setting out for your trip.
To get your e-visa, you need to visit a reputable e-visa portal and find the application form. Complete the form, followed by submitting the applicable paperwork. Next, pay the processing fee using your bank card or digital wallet. Present your visa along with the e-arrival card at the immigration counter to get entry. You can also get your visa on arrival, where you must pay the visa fee in USD.
Cambodia Entry by Land
You can also use Cambodia land borders to enter the country by road. As of September 2025, your options include Bavet and Tropaeng Kreal. Bavet in Svay Rieng and Tropaeng Kreal in Kratie are the borders shared with Vietnam.
Poi Pet and Cham Yeam are located at the Cambodia and Thailand border, and are temporarily not granting entry with an e-visa. You will need a traditional or an on-arrival visa to enter through these two crossings at the Cambodia and Thailand border. Remember that receiving a visa on arrival at the border crossing is not guaranteed. So, arriving with a sticker visa is a safer option.
Cambodia Entry by Sea
If you want to enter Cambodia by sea, you must arrive at the Sihanoukville seaport. But remember that an e-visa is not accepted at the seaport. So, you must have a traditional visa or be prepared to get one on arrival. And as you already know, having an e-arrival card is also mandatory.
Remember that it takes time to get customs and immigration clearance when entering through a seaport. You may also not be issued an on-arrival visa at all. So, once again, having your sticker visa ready is the safest option. You are also advised to confirm visa arrangements with the cruise operator you will travel with.
